Lake Park, North Carolina-A Tourist's Paradise

Located on the banks of the Little Pigeon River, Lake Park, North Carolina has been one of the most popular vacation spots for many visitors over the past couple of decades. Lake Park itself was originally developed as a reservoir in the late 1800s. Today, the area consists of several lakes and ponds which were used as a source of water for the city of Wilmington until about 1920. Because of the popularity of the park, there have been many development projects in the area over the past couple of years. One of these is the proposed development of an amusement park in the park. With the large population of minorities in the area, there has always been an influx of new immigrants. One of the biggest influences of Lake Park, North Carolina is the African-American community. People who are native to the area often speak a blend of English, Spanish and other languages. Another major influence of the area is the Caribbean culture, which includes Jamaican music and dance. While most tourists to Lake Park are unaware of this rich history, the residents of the area make it easy to experience this history by celebrating various celebrations throughout the year. One of the best parts of the shopping center is the Lake Park Mall, which is one of the largest malls in the United States. Other business complexes are located throughout the area as well.
